The FMI team and I embarked on an adventure to go and celebrate the launch of the schools first library thanks to the Learn Project. Over the last 21 years we’ve partnered with people to protect their futures. We’ve helped grow and nurture thousands of children’s lives through the Learn project!
But hang on, you don’t even know what The Learn Project is so let me reverse a bit! The Learn Project is an organization that collects and distributes educational books and supplies throughout KZN. FMI is one of their proudest sponsors, providing the funding for facilities and training.
But back to the story! So we spent the day at the new library in the Inanda Township, stocking it with more than 1000 books plus another 700 books that we used to top up book corners in nearby junior primary classrooms. The journey was pretty fun, but it was nothing compared to how rewarding spending time with the children was.
I was an absolute hit, I’m telling you. As soon as the school kids saw me driving down the road, their faces lit up – they knew that today would be the day their library became a reality. When we asked if two of the children wanted to pose with me for a photo, we did not get just two volunteers – we got 20! (As you can see). It was awesome!
I loved every minute I spent there; it was a great reminder of how empowering and inspiring learning is. And, it was also fantastic to see how FMI has made a real difference in the world – not just to their clients, but also to those who need their help in other ways. So ja – the journey is off to a memorable start and I can’t wait for the next installment!
